Neighborhood
There exists a place in West Palm, a place where beer brews, where taco trucks give you a fried jalapeño, where there are boutiques, where Phipps’s gumbo limbo trees shade the skatepark, where if you breathe enough of the air you become a better you.
Which Restaurant(s) Should I Visit?
Howley’s is there, a place to eat, drink, and socialize with your friends, that stays open 24 hours. If you are going there, be sure to sleep off your drinks at the Motor Lodge, where you can hear the conversations of their customers sitting on the patio, like the women’s group from 8:00 am in the morning. The motel is one door down. The rooms are smoking and non, it is less than $100 per night, and the cable television is the kind that most quickly changes the channels, no delay.
On the crossroads of Dixie Hwy. and Puritan, Dixie Grill wafts its burger smoke onto the sidewalk. Everything about that place, from the memorabilia that adorns the walls to the unmissable neon sign is a gorgeous vintage. The staff is hospitable, likable from the get go. People line the bar for some of the beer the brewers brew there, of which I was permitted to free sample about seven before I selected the Seven Layer Stout. For those who do not know their beers, stout is a dark brown beer that is rich and flavorful, often chocolate is its flavor but hazlenut, oatmeal, and coffee are its flavors just as often. There is a good selection of sours, too. I am attaching photos of some stuff that covers every single inch of the dining area.
Print’s Not Dead
Palm Beach County’s local newspaper is called the Palm Beach Post. If you are in town, you can find one at the bodega, and check the sports section, to see FAU football in full color.
How Do I Find This Place?
This area of Dixie Highway that I am referring to is due south of Palm Beach Atlantic University, the Norton Art Museum also. It is about three miles from downtown, where Clematis St hosts the city of West Palm’s dance clubs.
What Didion or Thompson Might Have Said
S. Dixie Hwy is defined by its people, by the understanding that exists in the collective consciousness there. What residents have along S Dixie Hwy is remarkable, something which more should take notice of its worth, that barrio.
